Project:  Total Bathroom Remodel
Location:  Northfield, VT
Year Completed:  2009

This bathroom was a complete gut job down to the studs.  It was on the first floor of an early/mid 1900's Sears kit home.  It functioned as the only bathroom in this 3 bedroom cape style home so renovating it provided serious challenges to maintain shower and toilet facilities for as much time as possible.  The old bathroom was very tired after the homeowners had raised a family in it and years of leaking around the tub and shower valve had badly damaged the subfloor and framing underneath the bathroom.  The bathroom was off the main hallway that flowed into the kitchen/entry to the house which was covered in very tired vinyl tile. We gutted the bathroom down to the studs, appropriated some space from an adjacent closet, fixed the rot and re-fitted the bathroom with all new fixtures and floor coverings.

The Bathroom took over a small closet in an adjoining bedroom which allowed the installation of a shower unit to help the aging homeowner's bathing needs.  The floor was tiled, more space was gained by exposing a chimney that had been previously framed in, and new insulation was installed.

The end result was a crisp clean bathroom without any bells and whistles.  It was exactly what the homeowner was looking for and it transformed an unhealthy and eventually dangerous bathroom into one that will serve her for well for many years to come.
