Remodel: Waitsfield Basement - From Drainage Issues To Finished Living Space
Project Details
This project included fixing some drainage issues in the client's basement by adding a sub-slab sump pump before we turned two-thirds of the basement into finished living space. The retired couple wanted to use the space as a play space for their grandchildren as well as a family theater area.
We designed the theater area with custom built-in cabinetry to hold the A/V equipment and carefully placed the in-wall and ceiling speakers for the clients' Dolby Surround system.
Renovating basements can be excellent investments and are generally the least expensive way to add living space to your home. They do, however, need to be addressed properly to avoid comfort and health issues. If the foundation and floor are not isolated from the exterior soil on the outside of the building, they need to be isolated from the interior living space and we accomplished that in this scenario with rigid foam, mineral wool insulation, and a specialty subflooring product to isolate the slab and provide an ideal subfloor for wall to wall carpet.
The end result is a warm, comfortable, finished basement for this couple to play with their grandkids and watch movies in.
